About

What is this?

Tengri Universe is a fictional universe built from the sources of Turkic mythology. For now it has a single door: the Bestiary. Every Thursday a new record joins the codex.

Two layers

Every record has two parts, and the two never blend.

In the sources
What the epics, inscriptions and folklore collections tell. Footnoted, with a bibliography. When accounts disagree, we say they disagree; we never correct the record to suit our story.
In Tengri Universe
Our fiction. Where it departs from the sources, it says so. Nothing you read in this part is offered as history.

How to read a record

Realm
Sky, Earth or Underworld. Some beings stand between two.
Type
What the being is: spirit, giant, dragon, guardian or ancestor-beast.
Might
A scale from zero to five. It measures power, not evil: not how hostile a being is, but what it is capable of. A benevolent being can sit at the top of the scale.

How we tell it

Curiosity first, then a good story. This mythology belongs to no single people; it shares roots with Mongolic, Siberian and Uralic traditions, and the records name those parallels. The kam tradition and belief in Tengri are still alive today; we approach them with respect, from a storyteller's distance. We stay out of current politics: here the grey wolf is a mythic guide, nothing more.

The plates

The codex plates are made with an AI-assisted pipeline and all reduced to a single master palette. That is why separate beings read as pages of the same codex.

Who

Tengri Universe is built and written by Mehmet Özer Özdaş.
